In May 2004, Dale Toney experienced a ventricular fibrillation - a heart condition that causes cardiac arrest - causing him to pass out while driving. Around 98 percent of ventricular fibrillation episodes result in death. But Dale's car slammed into a wall, snapping the seatbelt across his chest and effectively "re-booting" his heart and saving his life. It was then that Dale began reexamining his life and his work - and looking for ways to make a real difference for others.
In July 2004, Dale read the book Half Time by Bob Buford. It helped Dale focus on the truly important things in life and gave him permission to seek ways to put his God-given talents to work.
Four years later, during a phone call, Dale was struck with the concept of targeting the overwhelming number of small life insurance policies that seniors lapse every year. He recognized an opportunity to combine efforts across multiple charities and organizations to achieve economies of scale and manage pools of insurance policies, much like mutual funds, where
each policy donated represented a percentage interest in the overall pool for the donor-designated charity.
Dale and his friend and business partner, Dan Bates, worked through a collaborative effort and in 2008 the two co-founded LifePoint Charitable Endowment, Inc. to apply their unique expertise in life insurance, life settlements, and life insurance portfolio management to benefit charities and people in need around the globe.
